From your comment #70 I understand that it will finally get out of its hang after half an hour. That is more than a non-forewarned user could be expected to wait, but once we know it, it's not really "forever" so it can be used — if nothing else avails.
Of course a shorter timeout, or even an option to manually bypass floppies, would be more satisfying IMHO. AFAIK I cannot afford to disable floppies completely in the BIOS: I once tried but then the (Legacy GRUB) bootloader wouldn't start.
