If I start a copy from a console (CTRL-ALT-Fx), the system also freezes
completely sooner or later - see comment #5. Therefore I don't know if it is
correct to blame KDE.
Right now I'm doing a copy with KDE's Samba-KIOslave. Although it seems to be
slightly slower than NFS, the CPU usage is way lower than with NFS - all cores
seem to be pretty idle, not saturated with 100%, as it was with NFS.
The freeze is pretty annoying making NFS completely unusable for anything but a
few MB transfers.
Googling around for "NFS freeze large file transfer" I get the idea that there
must be something severely broken in the current Linux NFS implementation in
some circumstances.
