Karl,
I'm using the Novell client + LUM to authenticate users on the OpenSUSE 11 box.
Before, I had an NFS mount for /home, which contained all of our homedirs for
users on SLED10. When we upgraded to OpenSUSE 11, all users experienced
problems with main-menu eating up cycles.
The fix I did yesterday was to simply remove the nfs share, and allow Novell
users to login, which recreated a new profile in OpenSUSE 11. I then made a
symlink to their old profile by mounting the old homedir in /oldhome and adding
the symlink to the startup scripts for each user.
This is particularly annoying for those who use apps that are tied to gConf,
since I had to go in an manually rip out code from the old profile and insert
it into the new profile (specifically Evolution). Other apps were also set back
to default settings. However, every one of our 25 novell LUM users are no
logged into our OpenSUSE 11 box with new profiles and have no problems with
main-menu.
