I was able to CTRL+ALT+"+" to get X to use a lesser screen resolution and complete the installation. For the preferred Resolution of 1280x1024 (or 1280x768) the suggested Vertical refresh rate is way out of spec at 165 Hz - I found my manual and it advises a setting of 60-65 Hz.
