See
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:How_to_set-up_a_HP_printer
"How to set-up a HP printer" normally:
I.e. run the printer setup tool as "root".
See also "Allow printer admin tasks for a normal user" at
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CUPS_in_a_Nutshell
It would be a security problem if we added users by default
to the "lp" group. In particular users in the "lp" group
can read the print spool data files /var/spool/cups/d* so that
those users can read possibly confidential print job data.
Of course you can add any user manually to any group
which you need in your particular case and considering
what is secure in your particular (network) environment.
