Adding yourself to the "disk" group certainly helped, but it is a potentially
very dangerous solution. The /dev/sr0 should belong to the cdrom group. The
problem you're experiencing is due to missing permission rules for udev. Don't
know why they are not present. Anyway, if you put:
SUBSYSTEM=="scsi", ATTRS{type}=="4|5", GROUP="cdrom"
into, say, /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev-permcdrom.rules and add yourself to the
cdrom group, you should be OK.
