Well, Thomas is right. I reproduced my steps with a boot CD on a test machine.
There was a message "switching to manual installation" and the title of the
following screen is linuxrc V2.1.17. Then I chose "start installation or
system" -> "boot installed system". The "choose root partition" window there
doesn't offer RAID devices.
As detecting RAID is not trivial, an entry "other device" which allows for
manual entry would be very helpful.
In case RAID metadata is detected in a partition, a warning message should be
displayed when the user chooses that entry.
BTW: In my opinion, "boot installed system" is semantically closer to "rescue
system" than to "installation" so the menu entry could be moved / duplicated.
