I assure you that there is a phone jack on the back of the laptop and a modem inside. Windows XP and Vista both recognize the modem and enable it. When I create a dial-up connection in XP or Vista, I can dial out. The modem is identified as Conexant D110 HDA MDC v.92. "HDA" indicates that the modem is tied into the high definition audio bus. On this laptop, the modem has installed onto COM3.
