--- Comment #22 from Peter Conrad 2011-12-07 16:13:17 UTC ---
Like Neil (comment #18), I'm confused.
The logic in comment #9 is basically this:
1. Check if /etc/rsyslog.conf contains an action specifying remote logging
2.a) If so, create a dependency on network.target (that is logical)
2.b) If not, use /etc/rsyslog.early.conf instead and don't create a dependency
on network.target.
Step 2b is rubbish, IMO:
- If /etc/rsyslog.early.conf contains a remote logging action, the result is
inconsistent (missing dependency on network.target).
- There's more than one difference between /etc/rsyslog{.early,}.conf, and
those have nothing to do with networking. In my case, I've created some
/etc/rsyslog.d/* files which are being ignored, because /etc/rsyslog.early.conf
doesn't include /etc/rsyslog.d/*.
If my (admittedly limited) understanding of systemd is correct,
rsyslog.early.conf is no longer needed at all. Simply use rsyslog.conf,
auto-create the network dependency when required (like in 2.a), and leave the
rest to systemd.
