gnome-shell is (was) indeed leaking a log.. it is, though, not just a thing of
a few patches here and there;
I just did the 'same' test on GNOME 3.13.4 (current alpha snaphshot) and at my
memory is (with a couple windows( at 138MB... opening the gnome-terminals I can
see the mem grow (not really surprising.. the window need be mapped for
painting) but I DO see the memory being released when closing them (back down
to where it started after a couple seconds, when the garbage collector passes).
I can TRY to find a couple commits that might address the leaks, but taking
snippets all over the place is prone to introduce new bugs;
my recommendation would be to 'leave is as is' on GNOME 3.10 (I assume GNOME
3.12 already is better in this respect) and enjoy the fruits of GNOME 3.14 to
be seen in the next openSUSE release.
(WONTFIX for 13.1 - but FIXED for upcoming versions of openSUSE)
