Apparently you cannot configure autofs with YaST unless you use 'ldap' and you
don't want to do that.
Possibly the easiest approach is to add:
/- /etc/auto.direct
to /etc/auto.master. Then add lines like:
/full/path -mount,options server:/path
to /etc/auto.direct.
See "man 5 autofs" and "man auto.master" for more details.
You mentioned 2 delays: one during boot and one at login.
The change to /etc/nsswitch.conf would only affect the one at login.
To reduce the one at boot you need to replace /etc/fstab entries with autofs
entries, or at least add the 'bg' option to any nfs mounts in /etc/fstab.
