This is an interesting conundrum if so. I'd vote for correct operation over performance in a default setting. Video playback is a rather common function. [Is it better to add 2 plus 2 quickly and get 5, or add 2 plus 2 slower and get 4? :-)]
In what area(s) were you observing slower performance? How much slower? For what it's worth I perceive no performance difference, although aside from video playback my normal desktop use is vanilla (2D, basic windowing, no Compiz, no OpenGL, etc.)
But we want to have it working with compiz, so we can't use TexturedVideo. Again, read comment #30.
I guess the other path is to figure out why playback without TexturedVideo has this bug.
Yes, please figure it out (Intel no longer cares about XAA, so they won't help here), attach the patch and reopen this bugreport.
