Hi there !
I have a similar issue but I found that it is not only linked to kernel
upgrade.
First, my config :
Gigabyte P55-UD4
Intel Core i5
8 GB DDR3-1600 (G.Skill RipJaws)
ATI Radeon HD4890 1GB GDDR5
Some other stuffs...
openSuse 11.3 x86_64
Kernel 2.6.34.7-0.3-desktop
I got through similar issue with hwinfo --framebuffer while building the ATI
proprietary drivers. In fact, the ati*.run binary launches that command and it
hangs forever, using 1 core at 100%, doing nothing.
So I just wanted to say it is not only related to kernel updates, but really a
general issue with hwinfo --framebuffer and ATI cards.
I found that problem a month ago, and no one was speaking about this at that
time, but I found that bug which, I believe, might be linked to our :

I do not know what I could add... Hope this will help.
Cheers !
