Some more info on this: I had a look at the y2log provided lately and noticed
/dev/md0 was created using /dev/sdb1:

constructed md lines1:"md0 : active (auto-read-only) raid1 sdb1[1]" line2:"
104376 blocks super 1.0 [2/1] [_U]"
So i restarted the installation again, disassembled md0 when the license screen
came up and used mdadm to assemble the device correctly using sda3 and sdb3.
Once this was done, Rescan in Partitioner shows the available LVs.
I am wondering: Is this issue caused because I tried to setup sda1 & sdb1 as
md0, sda2 & sdb2 as md1 and sda3 and sdb3 as md2 in a previous opensuse 11
installation and meta data got written to the devices?
