The Ubuntu "fix" is to blacklist the module from within. That change is
certainly needed, but as of 15:00 UTC on Oct. 27, it has not yet been merged
into the mainline kernel. I sent Email to the maintainer of acer-wmi to see if
it will be in 3.2. If so, I will push for it to be added to the openSUSE
version of kernel 3.1.
As to installing the firmware, Coolo is aware of the problem and "hopes it can
be fixed by RC2".

You must have lead a sheltered life. Those of us that use b43 cannot get by
with just loading a single package. We do that, and then have to run a script
that downloads a Broadcom driver and extracts the firmware.
You are aware that knetworkmanager no longer exists. You now use the plasmoid
networkmanager applet. If it is not in the tray, then you will need to add it.
