OK,
partial conclusion:
Bluetooth is the reason but not the cause of this bug.
1. Switching bluetooth off avoids the issue
2. Unloading hci_usb (the bluetooth driver) also avoids the issue
3. The frequency of the extra interrupts is what's expected with the current
bluetooth driver
It turns out that there's a serious interrupt misrouting on this laptop. The
interrupts for usb1 (uhci) go to irq 20 _and_ irq 19. The reason for this odd
behavior is unknown right now.
I am investigating work arounds and will study interrupt routing.
1. irqpoll works, but is an option of last resort
2. noapic works
pci=noacpi avoids this issue but leads to machine check exceptions
Lastly it would be possible to make a kernel patch to ignore spurious
interrupts.
