This can also happen, if sshed on such an updated system (even as root). Then logout, relogin fixes the problem for some time. On the local system, I can still login as root (local account), but not as user (ldap account). When logging in as user on the text console, all is well up to motd, but then an immediate logoff happens. I've attached an strace of that case, started after the username was entered, the xxxxxxxx is the (patched) password. login via kdm fails similar during login.. Reverting to nss_ldap-253-19.1.i586.rpm fixes the problem immediately and it doesn't happened anymore since then.
