Ok, I've done some more testing and have been able to reproduce this issue,
along with observing other network-related issues.
xen65:~ # uname -r
2.6.37.1-2-xen
xen65:~ # cat /etc/issue
Welcome to openSUSE 11.4 "Celadon" RC 1 - Kernel \r (\l).
On this host, 11.4 pv guests (2.6.37-20-xen) have *very* slow network IO.
Downloading the 6-part installation system can take 30min or longer! There's
no cpu load in dom0 (~1.8%) or domU (.8%) during this time. 11.3 pv guests are
fine, as are 11.4 hvm guests.
Jason installed same 11.4 pv guest (2.6.37-20-xen) on sles11sp1 host and did
not notice the networking issues. I then moved this guest to the 11.4 host and
noticed a flood of the following messages in the guest /var/log/messages when
doing network IO
Feb 24 18:03:14 linux-cnsd kernel: [ 810.324870] Attempting to checksum a
non-T
CP/UDP packet, dropping a protocol xxx packet
where xxx was a wide range of numbers (0, 2, 7, 87, 101, 111, ...). As Alexis
reported, I cannot ssh from guest to dom0 (and vise versa) but can reach other
hosts.
