You're using the radeonhd driver if I understood the xorg.0.log correct.
the official package (the one in openSUSE 11.2) has those drivers disabled for
a reason. As you realized yourself: it does work, but not properly... that's
why the decision is to not enable it at all.
Better no function that broken functionality, no?
What you can try, if the drivers are available, is installing the fglrx driver.
As such, I do not feel like this is a valid bug report:
- Initial problem not caused by the stock packages
- with the stock packages, compiz is not started as the driver is known not to
work.
