Camaleon requests on bug 540025 that yast2-qt be re-introduced in the Gnome LiveCD. He was surprised to find the Qt UI wasn't available when he was testing his work as a translator, and, as an user, he further argues that the GTK software manager isn't as adequate as the Qt one.
Thanks, Ricardo. Yes, I was used to download the LiveCD (gnome based) and use it to test the translations and the whole environment. And YaST Qt interface was also available, I didn't realize it was recently removed from that media :-(
I try to make the case that the GTK software manager on M8 will be less intimidating to past Qt users, and that PackageKit is also available. However, the abrupt dropping of the Qt UI and its small size (shouldn't occupy more than 1Mb) could be good reasons to re-consider this move.
Please converse with him. He is on the CC list.
BTW, converse with "her" :-) But please, let's no take this as a conflict between kde/gnome or about as a possible "feature-lacking" of any YaST-GTK/Qt/ncurses based interface. The bug I openned wasn't for requesting any "feature" under YasT GTK interface, but requesting to have an option that was available (not so long ago) and is not there any more, that is, to be able to test YaST Qt interface in that media. I was not aware about the "space" concerning issue, but I think YaST (ncurses, gtk and qt) is a very important part of the whole distribution and should be, not only well-translated but also well-tested, so I'd expect the LiveCD media could (whenever possible) bundle all the available YaST interfaces. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
