Hello Roland,
yes, unfortunately this problem seems to be specific since I also haven't heard
of similar problems on other setups (but there seems to be a lot of other
freezes with Go 7xxx cards and the PerfLevelSrc=0x2222 hack works for me too).
If I remember correctly, this problem occurred firstly after a bios update
which changed the overall video ram (turbocache) from 256 to 512 MB, but I am
not quite sure about this. The lockup happens a few minutes after dpms became
active, nearly every time. Here's a way of stable reproduction using KDE and
screensaver/lock enabled: Wait until screensaver has started and DPMS has
switched off the display - wait some more time (giving time to freeze) - then
move the mouse -> display comes back with login mask (but only this first time)
-> don't log in but wait again -> display is switched off some time later ->
wait again some more time (giving again time to freeze) -> move mouse ->
machine never comes back. This is only one way of reproduction, I also
reproduced it in fvwm2 without a screensaver running.
Regards,
Dirk
