Cdrecord, readcd and cdda2wav all _need_ the suid root
privilege as there is no other way on Suse Linux to obtain
the privileges needed for operation.
Linux in principle could be configured in a way that would
allow cdrtools to work without being installed suid root but
SuSe does not ship the needed features. Once SuSe starts to
ship the related features as a basic non-deinstallable part
of the installation, I may start implementing the needed
support code in cdrtools and then in principle cdrtools
could run without being suid root on the _next_ Suse release...
For now: cdrtools have been audited more thoroughly than many
other software that needs suid root and cdrtools only execute
a very limited amount of code while having root privileges.
