Hi Ke,
I'm not sure what you mean with "Launch the scim". If you have scim installed,
it should get launched automatically at login - you can check this by verifying
that the XMODIFIER environment variable is set to @im=SCIM; you should also see
the scim icon in the panel (in standard mode it is a keyboard). To reproduce
this bug, it is sufficient to use the default input method (i.e. no shift+space
or ctrl+space to switch to another input method needed, but you can try that
before to see if scim is really running and OO.o talks to it). If XMODIFIER is
not set, no such problem can be seen; if you launch scim after starting
OpenOffice.org, OO.o won't use it, no problem seen either.
Starting scim might not completely automated (depends on some environment
variables - I created the new user to be sure that with a normal default
setting it *is* started automatically). If it isn't starting by default with
your settings, create a ~/.xim file with the following content:
export XMODIFIERS="@im=SCIM"
export GTK_IM_MODULE=scim
export QT_IM_SWITCHER=imsw-multi
export QT_IM_MODULE=scim
scim -d
