https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=694784 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=694784#c0 Summary: NFS shares not mounted at boot in openSUSE 11.4 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: ASSIGNED Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Release Notes AssignedTo: ke@novell.com ReportedBy: ke@novell.com QAContact: coolo@novell.com CC: lnussel@novell.com Found By: Documentation Blocker: --- +++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #679212 +++ Ludwig Nussel 2011-05-16 07:20:31 UTC On distro upgrade the nfs service stays enabled if it was enabled before. New installs have it off, that's correct. Having nfs on slows down the boot process as it causes a dependency of $remote_fs on network which is unnecessary in the majority of installations. If yast is used to add nfs shares to fstab it makes sure to also enable 'nfs'. Manually editing /etc/fstab requires a manual "chkconfig nfs on" of course. ======================================================================== Patch by lnussel: Index: RELEASE-NOTES-openSUSE.xml =================================================================== --- RELEASE-NOTES-openSUSE.xml (Revision 9895) +++ RELEASE-NOTES-openSUSE.xml (Arbeitskopie) @@ -278,13 +278,12 @@ afterwards.</para> </sect3> - <!-- bnc#665160 --> - <sect3 id="tec.cifs.disabled" status="2011-02-11"> - <title>CIFS Service Disabled By Default</title> - <para>To reduce security risks, the CIFS service is no longer enabled + <!-- bnc#665160, bnc#679212 --> + <sect3 id="tec.cifs.disabled" status="2011-05-16"> + <title>CIFS and NFS Services Disabled By Default</title> + <para>To improve boot speed the CIFS and NFS services are no longer enabled by default.</para> - <para>To enable it, start the YaST System Services (Runlevel) editor - and configure the <systemitem>cifs</systemitem> service.</para> + <para>Use the YaST System Services (Runlevel) editor to enable them if needed.</para> </sect3> <!-- bnc#668890 --> -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
