--- Comment #1 from Thomas Rood 2007-10-14 16:36:10 MST ---
I tried again and kept notes. The notes are reproduced below in the hope that
it may provide some insight.
Try #2 -
Loaded openSUSE 10.3 KDE again as follows:
1. Machine is a GX110 with 320MB RAM. The boot drive is a Fujtisu SCSI in a
SPRAC 611 case connected through an Adaptec 2940UW2.
2. At Software set, I deleted:
a. AppArmor pattern
b. Desktop Effects pattern
c. Games
d. Searched for "beagle" and deleted everthing found.
3. At network setup, I disable IPv6.
4. At bluetooth setup, I disabled SDP, HCI and RFCOMM
5. I skipped the update during the setup phase.
6. Everything else was as defaulted.
When the system was running:
1. I adjusted my monitor using Yast and rebooted.
2. I added cifs to MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT and deleted xennit and xenblk from
DOMU_INITRD_MODULES.
3. I rebooted.
4. I installed the repositories.
5. I installed samba-client and cifs-mount.
6. I added two samba share mount points to fstab.
7. I rebooted.
8. The same problem occurred: The first Samba share mounted; the second did
not. I disabled the repositories, changed the default runlevel to 2, and
rebooted. The system hung on shutdown as before.
9. I restarted and uninstalled samba-client and cifs-mount with yast.
10. Shifted to runlevel 5 by using telinit 5.
11. I installed samba-client 3.0.23.d-19.7.i586 and cifs-mount
3.0.23.d-19.7.586 from the openSUSE 10.2 update repository.
12. I changed default runlevel to 5.
13. I rebooted.
14. The same problem occurred: The first Samba share mounted; the second did
not. The system hung on shutdown as before.
15. I loaded kernel-default 2.6.18.8-0.7.i586 from the openSUSE 10.2 update
repository.
16. I rebooted - not a good idea since I didn't fix GRUB. The system is now
DEAD.
