The PostScript in the YaST test page simply fills up the whole imageable area of the driver/PPD combination (see the text at the bottom of the YaST test page).
If you use Letter paper, select this media size. Otherwise the driver will produce too big output because we have by default A4 in our PPD files.
If printing from applications (in applications you set the unprintable margins individually) exceeds the printable area of your printer (provided you selected at least the right media size), you should choose another driver.
There are many drivers for a HP LaserJet 5 available: "HP LaserJet 5 Foomatic/hpijs (recommended)" "HP LaserJet 5 Foomatic/pxlmono (recommended)" "HP LaserJet 5 Foomatic/ljet4" "HP LaserJet 5 Foomatic/lj4dith" "HP LaserJet 5 Foomatic/lj5gray" "HP LaserJet 5 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.1 Simplified" "HP LaserJet 5 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.0.1"
http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-LaserJet_5 recommends to use the HP driver HPIJS/HPLIP, see http://hplip.sourceforge.net/supported_devices/laser.html which is this PPD file: /usr/share/cups/model/manufacturer-PPDs/hplip/HP-LaserJet_5-hpijs.ppd.gz "HP LaserJet 5 Foomatic/hpijs (recommended)"
Each available driver has its pro and cons and it is almost impossible to recommend one single best driver.
Does /usr/share/cups/model/manufacturer-PPDs/hplip/HP-LaserJet_5-hpijs.ppd.gz "HP LaserJet 5 Foomatic/hpijs (recommended)" work well for you?
Did YaST select the pxlmono driver by default or did you select it manually?
Papar select is right - A4. By default printer setup select pxlmono.ppd for HP LaserJet5. With hpijs test page fits to paper, and speed is OK, but all that circles with tone reducing they except first one are same - almost white, with ljet4.ppd all tone seems are OK, but not fit to paper size ;) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
