Please try if this also happens while you're using sysvinit instead of systemd.
http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Most_annoying_bugs_12.1 section 'Problem:
System is switched from sysvinit to systemd during upgrade.' describes how to
switch back to sysvinit permanently.
For a quick one boot time only sysvinit test you might use the option presented
at the graphical boot menu via pressing the F5 key.
At http://download.openSUSE.org/pub/opensuse/update/12.1-test/<ARCH>/ - please
replace <ARCH> by i586 or x86_64 - the planed systemd update is already
available. You either download the systemd packages you currently have
installed on your system or you add
http://download.openSUSE.org/pub/opensuse/update/12.1-test/ as additional
repository. The later might make the install easier.
