https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=465112 Summary: X server starts slowly, kdm doesn't start at all, black screen, no vt-switching possible, Radeon 8500, R200 Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: a.stenglein@gmx.net QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: Customer Created an attachment (id=264296) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=264296) xorg.conf The Xserver starts so slow, that kdm doesn't start. Result: black screen, without the possibility to switch to another vt. This happens on a box with ATI Radeon 8500 (R200 QL) and Samsung SyncMaster 959NF (CRT Monitor) attached to VGA port. The Mainboard Chipset is SIS745 I think. I tried another Monitor (Medion, LCD) on VGA with same result. Setting runlevel to 3 and trying with xinit at least startet the xserver, however it was slow. Setting the Displaymanager to gdm or xdm worked, however it took minutes after logout for gdm to show up again. I tried current git version of xf86-video-ati, situation seems to have improved a bit, but it's not solved: still slow, kdm still doesn't start. Workaround: Set the Option NoDDC2 in the device-section of xorg.conf, so xserver starts "instantly". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
