--- Comment #7 from Hans Petter Jansson 2011-02-14 18:48:27 CET ---
I am not an expert on FAM itself, but:
- I believe the client and server instances know about each other because the
network host address is part of the NFS mount's path, and famd runs on a
well-known port.
- famd must run on both the NFS client and the server, one instance on each.
- According to its man page, only one instance of famd can be run at a time on
a given host.
- I tested the patch in a single-user environment, where a path was exported
from one VM over NFS and mounted on another VM.
famd can be started from its init script: rcfam start
Make sure you check /etc/sysconfig/fam first. On the NFS server, you need to
change FAM_LOCAL_ONLY to say "no", so the client can connect to it.
Does any of this help?
