I've seen this on four different PCs with 32-bit openSUSE-11.4 KDE liveCD:
(1) athlon-2800 (2GB RAM) with PCI nVidia 8400 GS graphics (with nomodeset boot
code)
(2) athlon-1100 (1GB RAM) with AGP nVida FX5200 graphics (with nomodeset boot
code)
(3) sempron-2600 (1GB RAM) with AGP ATI 9200 PRO graphics (with nomodeset boot
code).
(4) Intel-1.5 GHz (1.2GB RAM) with Intel 855GM graphics (with nomodeset boot
code).
Without nomodeset boot code athlon-2800, athlon-1100 and sempron-2600 freeze
with KDE liveCD. Intel 855GM without nomodeset boot code has other problems due
to kernel incompatibility with 855GM graphics (a problem different from this
thread).
Gnome liveCD's provide proper behaviour:
openSUSE-11.4 M2 Gnome live CD boots properly on all above PCs with nVidia and
Intel hardware with the 'nomodeset' parameter. Some tuning needed for ATI 9200
PRO graphics with 'nomodest' parameter (which is similar behaviour seen on
openSUSE-11.3 and is upsteam radeon driver related (closed bug report exists on
11.3)).
Gnome liveCD without 'nomodeset' on nVidia PCs works dependant on how 'nouveau'
driver likes the nVidia hardware. Gnome liveCD without the 'nomodeset' ATI PC
works. Gnome liveCD without the nomodeset Intel 855GM graphics has noted
kernel problems.
Ergo, KDE liveCD has problems that Gnome liveCD does not have.
The CD burned at slowest speed burner allows to high quality media, after
MD5sum check properly performed on downloaded .iso file. I've burned hundreds
of Linux distribution CDs over the years, so I think I am reasonably familiar
with the process to ensure a good quality CD.
Since PCs would not boot properly in above cases, it is difficult to provide
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.
