IDE went through a lot of changes lately and I haven't been following all the developments. At this point, IDE drivers are included only as fallback and/or debug purposes. Can you please test RC1 and see whether the libata driver behaves better? I'm a bit worried tho. hpt ones are one of occasional problematic ones.
I got RC1 downloaded and gave it a try. I first tried the CD/Live (just to save download time) version and that seemed to work. OK. So that seemed like good news. It booted up and see to see the drives in the system OK. They were all there from /proc/partitions. So I burned the DVD with thoughts of installing if all went well. Not so good news here.... Boot up started well. It got past the udev error that I saw in Beta 5. It loads the basic drivers OK. But, just past this point it prints the following messages Reading driver update:disk:/?device=*usb* disk:/:adding to installation system -- and then it stalls for ~15 minutes, and then prints the following message Loading Installation System(1/6) (19588 kB) - 11% And then is seems to hang. During the 15 minute stall the system is still somewhat responsive. I can Alt-Fx between screens, but I cannot get a shell in any of them (I was hoping to grab boot.msg again). After it prints the last message, it stops responding at all. I hope this is somewhat helpful.
