However with OpenSUSE 11.3, my computer sometimes suddenly ignored all user
input (no kernel panic): Yes; that really sounds very much like
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32393. By now the initial problem
has been resolved ('EQ overflowing' in xorg.conf; EQ ~ event queue), even now
there are no more backtraces dumped into xorg.conf but the hangs have
apparently remained. If using the Nvidia driver has resolved this for you then
you should report it at freedesktop.org (We must not leave things like this).
I'm not really after testing audio anymore: We need to be very careful in never
intermangling different issues when reporting bugs. The Xorg-Hangs above are a
somewhat similar looking issue though a completely different one because they
are caused by Xorg and not by the kernel. However the result may be comparably
since the only escape from the Xorg hangs is an Alt-PrnScr-L-S-U-B (sysrq
keys). As this is not a bug of radeon or nouveau but the Xorg event handling +
DRI code we need to be very careful. I would personally regard it as advisable
to continue any further testing merely on the console (in runlevel 3 without
any X running).
It would be very helpful if you could give rt-benchmark a try:
If that helps I will upcomingly run it on my FS Scaleo.
Nonetheless I do continue to regard audio/video playback as the ideal test case
for this hpet/apic related issue.
