I actually have done some more testing(with vmware engineers too), and it looks
like the kernel 2.6.23.17 has the fix in it that solves this issue.
And apparently under HUGE memory pressure from vmware the vmemmctl module from
vmtools balloons memory in and out very aggressively and trips up this bug.
With this kernel I have not had the problem on the test VM that has been
crashing once a day with SLESsp1/sp2.
I setup a constrained vm resource pool and only allocated 2gb of ram too it. I
have 5 machines in it(some netware, some sles, some redhat) which each have 1gb
of ram. Than I have my test SLESsp2 box with 2gb of ram. You can see how
overcommited I am in the memory dept :) But I did this on purpose to force very
aggressive memory swapping. With kernel 2.6.26.x I was up for 2 weeks. I found
the bug though was actually fixed in 2.6.23.17--and I am up 3days so far with
that.
Of course these kernels are not yet supported with Novell...so that is a big
problem.
I would really love to talk about this when you get back.
Thanks!
