Egbert, thanks for the suggestion. Tried switch from 1200 to 1920 - and back
again - but it made no difference.
An all-day test on a new 11.2 installation with no use of SAX has led me to
believe that SAX may be a red herring. The scrolling problems may go from
Firefox and appear in Kontact simply following a reboot. Here are some
conclusions following the tests.
1. Scrolling problems affect the dragging of panels across windows as well as
displays within Firefox. Dragging one caused it to be erased from its original
position and then be redrawn in the new one.
2. If scrolling problems exist within Firefox, Kontact will work without almost
without trouble. I've had no crashes with Kontact whilst the graphics problems
were most evident.
3. If there are no scrolling problems in Firefox, Kontact will have its own
scrolling problems, will crash, will crash the session or will lock up the
session so that power-down is needed. As well as Kontact failing, the local
Plasma wallpaper on its desktop will be gone.
4. As I had some evidence that thinking that having Plasma settings of
different activities for each desktop may have been partly to blame, I altered
the settings to the default. Needless to say, it made no difference.
5. Graphics problems are also evident when the logon screen first appears. For
a while it looks like a new kilt pattern designed after a bad nightmare. This
may or may not be related.
I'm sorry that I doubt the above will be of much help to you. When I was
dealing with hardware/software problems in an official capacity years ago, I
hated it when it all seemed interrelated like this. I'll carry on experimenting
so as to try and untangle the knots in the knitting..
