IMHO five seconds are to much. Is there a way for the kernel/libata to
determine
the BIOS/CMOS configuration for shuting down the disks. AFAICS from comment #55
the BIOS seems to spin down the disks at least with openSuSE 10.2 ... now if
with
the kernel of openSuSE 10.3 the hard disk controller get the spin down command
twice from kernel and from BIOS (don't know which order) the controller may
wake
up the disks to be able to send the second command. Maybe the flush command
send
by the kernel/libata is the real cause for the spin up, in this case the order
is BIOS before kernel.
