I don't think we need to get too technically detailed on the jacket. 99% of the time, these DVDs are given out by an Ambassaor at an event, in a booth, or one-on-one. They are not an off-the-shelf product where you walk into a store and see the DVD and try to read for more information what openSUSE is.
Because someone from the community will be handing you the DVD, it will almost always come with a verbal description of what the DVD is.
Not focusing too much on technical details allows us to have more room for creative details on the DVD jacket, plus the less said on the DVD, the more the Ambassador has to say verbally, and that's a good thing because it causes the Ambassador and individual to be engaged with each other. When you engage, you have a higher chance for that individual to adopt the DVD or at least try it.
We can always put in a link on the jacket to a page to learn more about the technical details. They can read it in their own leisurely pace in greater detail than anything we could possibly fit onto the jacket.

While we're thinking about a little less technical sleeve, I'd like to
see it become reusable. Every time we have a new release, I end up in
the same situation: lots of [prior-release] discs, and burning some
[current-release] discs. It would be ideal to be able to put the new
discs in the old sleeves...

This is not only valid for the DVD sleeves but nearly all aspects of marketing and even distribution branding. My idea was always to make use of re-usable designs for these aspects. The distro branding process is also very time consuming as nearly every element needs to be re-branded over the releases. Fedora does it the complete other way around. Neutral design everywhere, only wallpaper is replaced on new releases. We mustn't go that extreme, but at least the following elements clould be made re-usable: distro: YaST installer branding Grub Branding maybe Plymouth theme marketing: banners slide templates business card templates dvd sleeves ...just to name a few. Still a good idea 3 years after it first emergence, so what? Same blah than year before, same complains, same rush for release, and then blackout during 6 month. Guess what, then again reboot and restart the same process. We're still running after the release process, goes the Team has always failed until now to organize and schedule it. Also the Fedora team benefit of having some great artists. Which help nowadays. I'm sorry to say that, but having :
as mentioned earlier, Richard and I are working on a concept proposal for 12.3. It's called grow (because together we grow ;)).
is not what we can define as a concept. -- Bruno Friedmann openSUSE Member & Ambassador GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org
