Hi again.
I think that the email from Andi was, due to being sent via iPhone and I assume being sent as soon as possible in order to show commitment, poorly stated. I think that a more in depth discussion amongst all involved concerning this and other issues would be the best way to move forward. Maybe a google hangout or such?
We could sort things out on the ml or irc and at the marketing/artwork hackweek which will happen in Nuernberg, after FOSDEM.
BUT: most things have already been said:
- no official announcements by Andi, unless we all agree on (including things like dreamopensuse)
I agree that everything should be discussed more thoroughly on the mailing list before anything "official" is said.
- find ideas how to handle distro/supplementary artwork (I have already given some input on that, but it can be sharpened)
Yes, agreed as well
- create a list of tasks, describing what needs to be done for a release
This is the basis of everything and needs to be done before anything else.
- find ppl who declare theirself as responsible for that tasks (for a specific release)
For all the non-creative works I think this is true. When it comes down to the actual artwork I think we should take a different approach. That is a very complicated issue which I do not intend to describe here and now. There are many many books concerning this subject so going into it here would not be the right place. We can start this as a new thread to discuss such details but in this one it serves little purpose.
Yes, this was meant for the 'work-that-needs-to-be-done'. The artwork stuff needs to be covered by the 'find ideas how to handle distro/supplementary artwork' topic. There are several ways to go here. Here are some: 1. Everyone can contribute a concept, like it is the case in debian (not everything went well there, too): e.g. http://wiki.debian.org/DebianArt/Themes/Roj This could include as many aspects of the distribution as possible. Afterwards, a poll is created to choose from that 2. Design based on a Releasename or Topic. This might be a great help, but also limits a lot. 3. Public Contests. This might lead to a lot of contributions, but in different quality. It's often hard to base a distro design on that. Only usable for supplementary stuff imho. 4. An ongoing process. The past two designs had an idea. Everything started with a whirl up (upwind), leading to the light shaded ground (lightrays - where the design idea has somewhat been 'destroyed' by it-s) and now to grow where everything is growing up nice and softly. This kind of process could be ongoing, or it could be created for e.g. three releases. Everyone could just submit a concept like that and we can decide together on which one we will work. In general working together is the keyword. I hardly can count the number of ppl already involved in the grow concept (and it's even growing more ;)) Greets Marcus
- prepare the upcoming release
In the future we can benifit from that, as we already do from the knowledge we gained during the past releases.
This might be an even greater adventure for 12.3 as it might bring a major theme/style switch from pure gree to green-black/grey.
Definitely true :-)
