I use Suse 9.1 Pro for x86_64 with kernel-smp-2.6.5-7.75.x86_64 on a dual AMD Opteron 248. The board is a Tyan K8S Pro (2882). My problem is that I can't get my Intel Pro/1000 MT server PCI-X cards to work. Whenever I do a "modprobe e1000" the systems freezes completely with no error messages. I didn't succeed in compiling the driver I downloaded directly from Intel. Does someone know a workaround for this or has information that the intel driver doesn't work on this architecture?
First thing to check is IRQ-conflicts. Try moving the card to a different slot and see what happens.
That did the trick! Please excuse my obvious lack in 1980s PC administration skills :-( Thanks for your help!
