That script also doesn't need to modify the Packages.ycp module and also
works on a running system.

software proposal? And before the first boot? Is there any restriction?

Yes, that script selects patterns to be installed and software proposal
then uses that information for Pkg::Solve() -- final selection of
packages to be installed.

Which three Add-On CDs would you like to use?

Instead of using this module, we had proposed building an addon cd for
each mode.

Good idea.
YaST Add-On-Creator is the way to go.
