Can you try to do this in two separate commands? I don't trust xrandr
completely here.

/home/stefanb/laptop/xrandr/xrandr --verbose --output DVI-D_1 --mode 1280x720
/home/stefanb/laptop/xrandr/xrandr --verbose --output PANEL --off

Yep, separating the commands helped. See the attached log files.

Works like a charm now :-)

So do you consider this a bug in xrandr? Should I report it or do you already have an idea what's wrong with it and will correct it in git?
