If I understood correctly, this has nothing to do with pktcdvd which presents writing ability to cdrws; but you suffer from read failures, no? In order to read and recover your data, you should try doing a # mount -t udf /dev/hdc /mnt/somewhere If it mounts then it mounts, if not then you have problems and chances are that it might not be recoverable based on past experience :( I don't know what those ibm dla stuff are, so are you sure it is udf? You may want to try without the -t udf option again..
IBM's DLA stuff indeed involves packet writing to UDF CD's -- googling for "ibm dla udf" gets you a bit of information, the first link being a download page (sorry, copy and paste is not working for me with my links2 browser ...). I think the front end to their software is/was called RecordNow. Doing a plain mount -t udf gets me nowhere, not even a message from dmesg (it just says "mount: no medium found"). I figured that if pktcdvd can write to udf CD's it must also be able to read from them .. although not necessarily screwed up ones. Nevertheless, I think you're right -- I probably picked the wrong list. I'll try linux_udf@hpesjro.fc.hp.com, which is what Documentation/filesystems/udf.txt says is the UDF developer ML, and who you should email if you have problems (it was late last night .........) Still, if anyone here reading this has any advice, I'd love to hear it. Cheers, Chris
