I wonder why? What was the problem that needed solving? What's wrong with having Xfce as an official openSUSE desktop option on the User Interface page? The wide choice of desktops is one of openSUSE's strengths.
You should have spoken out at the time the decision was made. Now it is too late. Not that people complaining makes any change, anyway... They simply wanted an interface that needs no modifications if interfaces are added or removed, because that is take care of with patterns.
