For some years I have been using lxde and later xfce with openSUSE versions up to 42.2. I am now doing a net install of 42.3 with, I had hoped, xfce.
Previously this was a simple choice on the User Interface page, but this choice has disappeared with 42.3. All I see is
User Interface
Please select a user interface
* Desktop with KDE Plasma * Desktop with Gnome * Server (Text Mode) * Custom
Why has xfce been removed? Is there some way of getting an xfce desktop on openSUSE 42.3 as I had with 42.2?
It hasn't been removed. The devs wanted that screen to offer limited choices, so if what you want isn't among the first three, you need to make your selection from Custom. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
