Tablets have built in batteries. You could do the same with a notebook computer. Just the other day, I used my computer for a couple of hours at a customer's site, as I couldn't be bothered to get out the power supply and plug it in. I also often carry a tablet with me and read, surf the web etc., all while running on battery. Many businesses etc. have open WiFi for customers to use.
