Because the laptop is not always connected to internet. I could, of course, stop and start ntpd with the connection. But if the connection is going up for only some minutes, it does not make much sense, does it? :-) The daemon is mostly intended for machines that stay up long times, specially considering that slew mode can take days to adjust a clock. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E.
