To answer my own question: I upgraded to tumbleweed. I now have the specific firmware for Carrizo and amdgpu running. I formatted the disk beforehand, so it does come out of the box. Is there a fairly easy solution?
Can I actually simply clone https://people.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/radeon_ucode/carrizo/ in there and run an mkinitrd?
Is it a better idea to run tumbleweed and wait for the 42.3 release?
