That said, I might never actually USE sysvinit again, wouldn't recommend the fruits of their labour to others, and I'd think it would be a monumental waste of time for everyone involved, but if they are going to do all the work required to make it work, then who the heck am I to stop them?
What this all boils down to, Linda -- and tohers -- is that if yu are so fervently anti-systemd, so pre-sysv-init, then make teh effort to support the sysv0init code base, keep it maintained and functioning as an alternative. Put up or shut up.
Richard and the board aren't going to stop you if you are willing to put the effort in to support this as an alternative. As he says, he'll encourage you, IF YOU ARE WILLING TO MAKE THE EFFORT.
It happened, as many of you anti-systemd-ers are so keen to point out with KDE3. That's because there are people willing to make the effort to support it.
If you are that vociferousness, then act. There's no-one stopping you, this is FOSS. The old code is out there. Put up or shut up.
Richard is too polite to say it, but what he does say amounts to the same thing.
This is FOSS. If you don't like how it is work on an alternative. Make it happen. No one is stopping you. You make it happen, show the commitment, deliver the stuff and the board will support you. Put up or shut up.
Nicely put, should be a standard reply to all detractors of any software.
