I wonder if we do actually create /var/log/journal in the default setup. I mean, a desktop machine doesn't need a persistent log.

Indeed. And once things are running stably ... ?
there is always something running wrong and you lose the keyboard... Of course, My work may not be the one of everybody, spending much time trying to test new things (new for me), but one never know when something will go wrong. the best use of journalctl I have (comparing to the old) is the ability to separate last boots. but this is for me... I manage a handful of servers and nearly never have use of logs, but once in a while I'm very glad to have them. I think the problem is elsewhere. Linux/unix is a very ancient system, now, and old systems are very stable and everybody knows how to use them. Building houses with logs (wood ones :-), is the same, but what for skyscrapers? on modern computers, million times more complex and powerful than what we had, it's normal to have new tools. I'm not expert enough to understand the background of things like system logs, so I trust experts. Of course one needs to use own knowledge, so not change too fast, but at sme moment it's time to learn new things at a reasonable pace jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
