French is sometimes used not only for those native to France, but for anyone from Canada, especially if from Quebec, whose native or primary language is French, by the Heinz57 south of 49N (notwithstanding enclaves).
I would think many might make the same mistake knowing your email was sent from the north side of Lake Ontario, combined with your frequent spelling mistakes and sometimes funky grammar, leading one to believe English is not your native language.
An understandable mistake, I suppose. What is due north of lake Ontario is the province of Ontario,
which I knew. Geolocation puts Anton proximal to, NW of, the official location of its big big city at the shore.
where English is the most common language
...which I knew
of instruction.
not something I remembered :-p
French is predominant in Quebec
hence "especially if from Quebec"...
and New Brunswick.
which I repeatedly forget even exists :-(
French is present in the rest of Canada, but not so common.
also I knew
Up here, we can forgive 'merkins for not knowing much about Canada. ;-)
Hey, I don't know that little. Around here we have what are known as snowbirds, humans who migrate south for several months when leaves start falling off trees or snow creates unappreciated work to do to escape the homestead. A large portion of this species of fowl are Canucks and English-speaking "feriners" from the whole of the North American snow belt.
I haven't noticed any spelling mistakes in Anton's posts. But I
I don't keep track, but they seem to come in bunches. Maybe it results after having consumed something that stops the responsible from driving a motor vehicle, but not typing on a puter things that others are meant to see? His aren't the only list posts I wonder that about.
suppose our spelling can sometimes not be recognized as correct by many 'merkins since we retain more of the original English as inherited from Great Britain.
Lots of people in the USA with early 20th and later 19th century ancestors born in places like Spain, Mexico, Scandanavia, Italy, Germany, France, Austria, and more, that have had their native language mixed into Merkin English over a long period of time. I'm 100% 2nd generation Merkin, all grandparents Norwegian(50%), Austrian(25%), & Hungarian(25%), but never learned with long term retention any of those three languages.
... And, I suppose it doesn't help that English as used in the popular media has been dumbed down to the lowest common factor.
The media surely does stir the pot. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg.
