I don't use this suite much, sticking mostly to Quattro Pro for DOS, where file->import->CSV works fine only as long as the line lengths aren't too long. How long is too long I've been unable to figure out. QPro's been rejecting Fedex CSV files, so I want to import CSV file(s) into LibreOffice Calc, but it has no import menu I can find, only export. How does one get a CSV file into a spreadsheet? Is there a separate package for this function that I don't have installed?

Felix, This is a *very* frustrating aspect of LO/OO that showed up in 3.1 or so. They have taken the traditional File->Import->sub_menu and tried to wizardize it all in File->open. This causes more problems than it fixes. The wizard seems to weigh the .ext in guessing at what import filter to use quite heavily. Where in the past you could manually tell it what import filter you wanted to use, I've found that I have to rename files on occasion to get the wizard to guess correctly between csv, fixed length fields or other delimited values to make it work correctly. If the wizard interprets the file you are trying to open being in a format other than what you want to import it as -- you are largely screwed. That being said, the File-open wizard for importing into calc can be made to work in most instances. I don't know that there is a "too long" limit for imports as long as calc can correctly identify the delimiting logic to use. Good luck. Any LO devs reading this put *manual* file->import selection back into calc. It is so Microsoft like to have a darn program try to out-think you and end of getting it wrong more times than not on basic features that worked fine for years. -- David C.
